What to look forward to in 2019

January 1st, 2019 by

Happy New Year!  While 2018 wasn’t the best year of Grifball, it was far from the worst.  We’re 3+ years into Halo 5 and it’s understandable that fatigue has set in and 2019 will be the year of mixing things up until Halo Infinite drops.  We don’t have a release date yet but what we do have is the MCC re-release and the most Halo hype we’ve seen in years.  Most of the newfound hype is surrounding Halo 3 and we will be following the trend.  The first season of 2019 will be WL19 and it will be Halo 3 Classic!  This means we’re moving back to MCC, back to Halo 3, and back to forming your own teams.  All of the following topics will be explained in their own post in the coming days.

Join the Discord!

If you’re new to PlayGrifball then I strongly urge you to join the Discord.  The community lives on Discord and is the best place to find league updates, customs lobbies and Late League signups: https://discord.gg/ZKytNaX

As mentioned earlier, the AGLA WL19 season is going to be played on Halo 3.  This means games will take place on the Master Chief Collection which also means we once again have a functional MM playlist, neutral hosts will be making a return, and game reporting is going to be a bit different.  With a classic setup, players are already forming their own teams on the Discord with a 5 player roster limit even before the signup date has been announced.  Neutral hosts and game reporting will be addressed in the very near future, the MCC Grifball playlist is not a traditional playlist and is fully explained here: https://playgrifball.com/2018/12/13/the-match-composer-and-why-its-great-for-grifball/

Late League

Late League was the big surprise in 2018 and a ranked customs concept had never been tried before and it’s been nothing but a success so far.  The new year brings upon a reset of the leaderboards as Season 2 prepares to start.  This time around, Halo 3 will be the primary game for lobbies and there’s going to be some adjustments to the formula to make it easier for players to progress through the ranks.  More to come.

AGLA SL19 and beyond

Halo 3 Classic has been confirmed for WL19, after that there is nothing set in stone.  It’s unclear what to expect in the not so distant future so we will be making it up as we go along.  We will be as surprised as you are.
