WL21 Rookie Player Awards!
After much deliberation from both Conra and myself, nominees and polls were set up earlier this week to determine the player awards for the regular season of Winter League 21. Each category has a little (too little) icon associated with it. The goal is to keep those icons in a trophy case of sorts that will be on your player profile. This is some lengthy work to do but it is happening folks! The voters came out in force and without further ado, it is time to #releasethetexts
We start off with best tank! The competition was steep, but RDGs absolutely insane stat line proved to be too much to overcome. With half the kills of the next candidate but with a better k/d spread, not only was RDG stacking the kills, but he was staying alive all the while!

Next up we have best Hybrid. This category takes into account the multi faceted nature of a player. They need to be able to score, defend, sword, and hammer, all in one neat little package. This one came down to Cxrnchip and Fox, but with Fox having one of the top runners, his ability to be seen as a threat scoring may have been compromised. To those who faced down the sword of Cxrnchip though he seems like the obvious pick!

Now we come to the coveted best Runner award! Despite protest from a few individuals, for this we examined goals scored as official team members (not subs) and highlighted total goals rather than per game. Sorry Mr. 50%! With a crushing amount of goals, SammiSaibot came out on top with a crushing amount of votes.

Best Defender is a tricky award to qualify. What makes a great defender? Some say its stops, some say its the number of goals scored against a team, or the lack thereof. For this we examined a few factors and ultimately decided that teams with exceedingly high turnover rates, or very long game times, were to be counted less in the ordering (looking at myself and Marty). With this in mind we saw a huge outpouring of support for Sev as the top defender, well done Sev!

To round out the main awards we come to the big enchilada, MVP. For this we left out players who did not make playoffs, as we stand by being valuable means you win games, sorry to myself. Running away with this category was big KD himself, RDHNHL! With an astounding +1.9 KDM and only 2 losses on record, RDG proved to be force game in and game out.

Now for the fun awards! These categories had the options for write ins and were not as stat dependent as the ones above. These awards will have a more generic image used for your trophy case, but are still fun and cool and awesome!
Flashiest -
DJBluePDX
Was it the hype streams or the shouts of terror as he made plays that earned him this award? We may never know, but DJBluePDX is flashy, and everyone knows it!
Scariest -
Nkot
Close contender for tank, Nkot held forward all game long, all season long, and streaked quite a few kills together. Any calm moment could be broken by a sudden rampage.
Best Life -
SammiSaibot
He didn’t win best runner by throwing it away, once he had the bomb he kept it until it was on the plate. That sort of attitude makes each life count!
Best Captain -
FoxFahrenheit
Being one of the most dominant teams, and having the best synergy certainly makes Fox a great option for best captain. The bond with Sammi is not to be understated, and sticking to his guns with that early pick proved fruitful.
Best Duo -
Fox/Sammi
Best captain and best runner, seems to make sense for them to be best duo! The Two came out the gate swinging and never stopped, looking to keep the run going through playoffs!
Best EU -
Ellis
It ain’t easy being cheeky across the pond, but the EU players know I’m just having a go and taking the piss when I give them guff! Ellis continues to be a force season after season despite the hardships of connection.
Best Sleeper Pick -
VinnyHaw
If I hadn’t botched it, Vinny could have been Rookie MVP this season as well, so it is easy to see why he would be the best sleeper pick. Vinny was drafted late into the second to last round and was a key component of the tanking line for his team, all the way into their playoff run now.
